Skills:
We will continue to emphasize skill development in players. While winning is important, we don't feel it should come at the expense of skill development.
-
Fun:
We must all do our best to make this fun for the players. After all, most of the kids will not be making a career out of basketball so let us treat basketball as a game and create an environment of fun through hard work and enthusiasm.
Winning:
It is fun to win but winning is secondary to the goals for the players and the team. Fun encourages players to develop. Development teaches players how to win. You can’t do this in reverse.
-
Playing
Time: While an effort will be made to play every participant, it will not be guaranteed. A player must earn the right to play by demonstrating proper character and skill traits in practice. Team goals will be emphasized over the individual.
-
Organizational Scope:
We are a competitive youth basketball program based out of Forsyth Country Day School providing opportunities for players from all over the Triad.
-
Common playbook: The development of a playbook and drill set will be beneficial for all teams. While each coach is not required to adopt any or all elements of the playbook, additions to the playbook will be agreed upon by the coaches and shared throughout the organization. We believe it provides a valuable resource to the coaching staff and maintains some continuity as the players develop within the program.
-
Commitment level: We recognize kids play other sports. At the same time, we expect the Titans to be the primary sport selected in the event of conflict during the basketball season. A typical season runs from December to the end of April for teams 12U and younger and from February to the end of May for older age groups. Missing practices and/or games for non-excused reasons may impact playing time.
-
Financial:
We recognize not everyone will be able to afford the fees to be part of the Titans. The organization will aid and assist teams and players who need to raise funds for participation.
-
Work with local coaches: We will work to develop relationships with local school coaching staffs to leverage and share expertise.
-
Community: We recognize the importance of community and will attempt to make donations or volunteer time whenever possible.
